Netless Catch

Netless Catch is a sustainable seafood startup. Their mission is to sell fish caught by artisanal spear divers that produces the highest quality catch you can taste. This cuts down on rampant overfishing, which destroys fish populations and marine biodiversity – fishing nets also indiscriminately catch all marine wildlife including dolphins and turtles. Their main catch right now is the Lionfish. With no natural predators and rapid reproduction, trillions of lionfish have taken over the Caribbean. They decimate local fish populations and endanger coral reefs, an important natural resource that produces 50% of the world's oxygen.

I was tasked with creating a logo, brand palette and typekit for Netless Catch. See what we came up with below.

The Unchosen Logos

Sometimes I think it’s interesting to show the logos that weren’t chosen to kickoff the project summary. There were a handful of directions Netless Catch wanted to explore and I was up for the challenge. Because their primary focus is selling to restaurants and/or chefs, I knew it needed to be timeless, but eye-catching – what would make it stand out from the rest? How might we make sustainable seafood feel elevated and hip? I went with my gut on this one – something with a strong typeface with an illustration that draws inspiration from neo traditional tattoo styles.
